Listen sis, I’m all for self-care. I do call myself the Self Care Sorceress after all. However, I have begun to notice that sometimes we (me included) use “self-care” as a crutch to avoid the hard stuff in our lives.
“I’m not cleaning the kitchen today cuz self care.”
“6 hours of netflix, cuz self care."
Here’s the thing: self care looks different from person to person and day to day.
Sometimes it's sweatpants + processed food, other days it might be unfollowing accounts on instagram + crying while journaling.
Whatever self-care activity you are engaging in, ask yourself how you feel after engaging in that activity.
1. Does this actually make you feel good?
2. Will this truly benefit you?
3. How will this affect the future you?
It’s important that we differentiate self care from self sabotage. After all, sometimes you have to do the messy + uncomfortable stuff in order to get to the good stuff.
I love you queen, so I want to keep it real with you. As your wellness hype girl + self care sorceress, I urge you to not misuse self care strategies to avoid your issues.
